The first main tip is to take all nationally published advice with a grain of salt. Most insurance companies, even national ones, are largely regulated at the state level. A health insurance plan from a nationally known company will vary from state to state because of regulations and operating costs.

Furthermore, your state and county may have heath plan options that are unique. Your state insurance department, county health department, and local insurance agents are great resources. If you are having a problem obtaining affordable health insurance, do not hesitate to look for help!

If your job offers a group health plan, that is probably your best option. Group health is partially supported by an employer, and probably provides more complete coverage. Some insurance, coverage, like maternity, is hard to obtain on the individual market!

Health insurance can be expensive, but the lack of health insurance can be a catastrophe. Can you really afford to pay for a hospital stay? Even an ambulance ride or visit to the emergency room can costs thousands of dollars.

Comparing health insurance plans, if you have a choice, can seem tedious and confusing. However, you will be much more satisfied if you have made an informed decision and really understand what you are buying.

Lower premiums won't always save you money if you have sacrificed coverage. You need to balance you premium with a reasonable amount of coverage for those medical costs you could not afford out of pocket.

How Do Low Income Families Find An Affordable Family Health Insurance Plan? (2)

How Do Low Income Families Find An Affordable Family Health Insurance Plan?
by : Donald Saunders

A common problem with many low premium plans is that the health insurance company will either ask you to pay a substantial number of your medical bills before they will begin to pay out, or will pay only a small percentage of each bill. In the vast majority of cases you will be required to contribute towards you medical costs and this is typically set at around 10% or 20% of each bill.

In exchange for a low monthly premium the health insurance company may however raise this figure, to perhaps as high as 30% or 40%, which can end up costing you a great deal in the longer term.

Many plans will also dazzle you with the huge range of things that they cover, but is this really necessary? If your family is reasonably young, fit and healthy and has not had to visit your doctor for some time then you might think about simply selecting a plan that covers you for accidents and emergencies and will take care of hospital bills and the cost of surgical treatment.

Select a policy which suits your needs, rather than a plan which appears to be the biggest and best and reduce your costs by taking out only the insurance that you need.

If you want to have all of the 'bells and whistles' then you can always increase you cover at a later date when your finances permit.

Finding a suitable plan is not easy but, with a little bit of time and effort, it is certainly not impossible to find the affordable family health insurance plan that you need.

How Do Low Income Families Find An Affordable Family Health Insurance Plan?

Although rising healthcare costs mean that it is not as easy as it used to be to find an affordable family health insurance plan, you can still find a plan which meets your budget providing you are willing to do some research.

Start by doing some comparison shopping using the Internet which gives you easy access to an enormous number of health insurance companies. Select several companies from your search and get a quote online by completing the simple application form which nearly all of the sites will provide.

Before starting your search though you will find it helpful to write down some basic information about yourself and your family's medical history which will make filling in the forms a little easier.

As soon as you have a number of quotes, pick those which look suitable at first sight and then consider the cover that each plan provides carefully and compare the plans to see which will give you the cover you are looking for at the price you can afford.

In reviewing each quote you should be aware of some common pitfalls.

You will find for example that there are a large number of great looking deals around with extremely affordable premiums but, on investigation, you will often find that these affordable premiums only apply to the first year of cover and that your premiums then rise considerably in the second and subsequent years.

You will also discover that a large number of companies offer low premiums as long as you do not make a claim against the policy. Once a claim is made however your premiums will rise markedly when it comes time to renew the plan.

Affordable Health Insurance

Affordable Health Insurance
By : Tony_Robinson

Like many other people have done before me, I recently left my regular job to start my own business. This is a challenging step for someone who values comfort and security, who likes knowing that a paycheck will come every two weeks regardless of his employer’s own business success.

Perhaps the biggest problem in becoming self-employed is the loss of non-monetary benefits an employer often provides; namely, medical coverage. It was very challenging to find affordable health insurance after becoming self-employed.

Many companies offer low-cost policies, so it should be easy enough to find some minimal coverage if that is all you desire. However, I wanted more; I wanted coverage for everything from routine checkups to prescription medications to major surgeries. This can be more difficult to come by.

I learned a lot from my search that might be useful to others. First, I learned to look paste the initial price quote. While it is very tempting for the self-employed to base all decisions on money alone, medical coverage is a very complex thing, and the value of an insurance plan can change drastically from provider to provider. Learn to compare policies according to what you actually get out of them and you will find a much greater value overall. Second, I learned that companies offering low monthly premiums often require you to pay huge deductibles in the event of a hospital visit.

One can always simply hope that a hospital visit will not become necessary, but that just adds another worry to the self-employed person’s mind. Finally, I learned that finding affordable health insurance means reading the policy in detail. It is important to know exactly what is and isn’t covered so that hidden charges don’t pop up later on. Many policies look good in the broad view but can be costly and ineffective in practice.

Self-employed people are always struggling to find affordable health insurance. However, I believe that any small business owner owes it to him or herself and his or her family to carry medical coverage at all times. Affordable health insurance is not a myth; all it requires is your investment of a little time and energy in comparing policies and finding the one that is truly right for you.
